How long will approval take after submission? (go to top)
Normally within seven working days.

Is the information on the Database generally available? (go to top)
Information about registered products in the InS Register is available to everyone and is easily accessible on the front page of the InS Services website. Product formulations are only available to manufacturers of that product via a password protected secure area of the website. Rebranders and Distributors will not have access to these. At the moment our database of cross referenced ingredients is not generally available but we plan to make it so and are working on the logistics of how best to achieve this.

What about other registrations? (go to top)
InS has already helped to obtain Kosher approval for a company and will be happy to help with others if requested. Other approvals held by companies (Kosher, Halal, etc.) can be listed on the InS register along side H1. This service is free of charge and only requires proof of acquisition of the standard.

Will InS only offer registration to H1, H2 & H3? (go to top)
No, InS can offer registration to all the grades covered by 21 CFR.

Who gives InS their authority? (go to top)
We seek only the authority of the industry. Since we are registering against an existing USDA list of ingredients and not setting standards it is not felt necessary to obtain approval from outside organisations. InS has contacted several European bodies who have interest but none requires any outside recognition.

Will InS recognise multiple sourcing of raw materials or will only listed manufacturers be recognised? (go to top)
If a manufacturer is not listed then a search will be made on the chemical name or CAS number; if the product appears in any of these it will be recognised.

Will the food industry accept InS? (go to top)
Many companies within the food industry still refer to H1 as FDA approved or USDA approved. Misnomers will certainly continue but the transparency of InS registration should make things clearer. The standard is H1 and is generally accepted worldwide regardless of the authorising body.

Has there been interest from grease manufacturers? (go to top)
We have received applications from Thailand, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the USA, China and the UK.

Will a certificate or letter of confirmation be issued? (go to top)
A relevant paragraph will be displayed on the registration certificate. If customers require a further letter this can be arranged.
